How to Mark Out a Football Field

How to mark out a foot ball field: Then using a string line, start with your goal line, making sure that you have 100 metres clearance of any hedges/obstructions etc. This line should be measured to as wide as you can in the space allowed, to approx 65-70m.

Use the 3,4,5 triangle technique to obtain a right angle at each corner of your goal line and take a string line down the pitch following your right angle to 95-105m. Do this for both corners of your first goal line which will give you two touch lines.

At the end of one of the touchlines, use another 3,4,5 triangle and follow a string line to the end of the other touchline.

You should now have strung out a rectangle. To check the accuracy of you rectangle, measure the diagonal lengths – these should equal the same. Once you are sure the string lines are correct, use these as a guide to mark the triangle.

Using a tape measure, find the centre of each goal. From the centre, make a mark on the goal line for the six yard and eighteen yard boxes. Do this for each end. A very useful diagram to use as a guide for this can be found at http://www.pitchcare.com.

From the corners, measure up both the touchlines, six and eighteen yards. Also measure up touchlines to find the middle of your field. Once all the internal measurements have been strung, mark these lines, ensuring you mark on the inside of the string line.

Once the six and eighteen yard boxes are marked, mark your centre line. Finally, put a string line up the centre of the pitch and measure from the back of the line (36′) for the middle of the penalty spot at each end. From the middle of the painted spot, measure 30′ on the outside of the penalty box to get your arc.

Follow the same principal to mark out your centre circle by again measuring 30′ out from the centre spot of your halfway line. The final step is to mark out the quadrants at each corner – these should be 1m radius.

Overview on the Different Sports Socks

Sports socks may not seem as conspicuous as sports shoes but they are important parts of a sports attire. In fact, there is as much research and development efforts being invested in the making of socks as in shoes.

Such features as support, cushioning, durability, elasticity, moisture-wicking technology and anatomical design for different feet are all taken into account in the manufacture of sports socks. Aesthetics also plays a role as catchy designs and attractive colors also influence consumer behavior.

Baseball Socks

Baseball socks are tube socks that go all the way up to the kneecap. Because baseball involves a lot of sliding around in the dirt, baseball socks are designed to protect the shin. They are also designed to keep out dirt and mud while letting the feet breathe. This type of socks is commonly made of 90% polypropylene which is a lightweight and durable material.

Basketball Socks

Basketball socks can either be mid-calf or crew socks. And because basketball shoes are high-cut, crew socks are cut higher so as to protect the ankles from rubbing with the top of the shoes. Basketball socks are designed to absorb impact as well as reduce friction as players run around the court.

Football and Soccer Socks

Football socks go all the way to the knee and are designed to be lightweight, stretchy, breathable and durable. Extra cushioning is provided at the heels and toes to buffer the impact of frequent kicks. The colors are often determined by the team uniform. In some countries, soccer is used in place of football so that soccer and football socks are generally made the same.

Hockey Socks

Hockey players actually wear two socks-the inner liner and the outer protective socks. The inner socks are designed to keep the foot warm despite the ice and at the same time dry despite the sweat. The outer protective socks are knee-high and are worn over shin guards and knee guards. The usual material is rib-knit fabric which is very stretchy and durable.

Lacrosse Socks

Lacrosse socks go up to the kneecap and are typically worn in team colors. These socks often have moisture-managing mesh areas and compressive zones around the arches of the feet. Extra elasticity around the top to keep the socks from rolling down the calves is also a common feature.

Running socks

Running socks usually do not have seams along the toes to keep the toes unharmed by long-distance running. They have moisture-wicking properties as well as extra support around the arches of the feet. Some running socks are even customized to fit the right and left foot differently.

The more popular brands of sports socks include Nike, Adidas, The North Face, Timberland, Thorlo, SmartWool, Red Lion, Twin City and Wigwam.

Support Your Sports Team With Rubber Wristbands

As summer heat gives way to autumn’s chill, many American sports fans have one thing on their minds: football. As one of America’s favorite pastimes, football offers people two different opportunities-to be spectators or to be players. From youth flag-football leagues to high school teams all the way to college and professional teams, there are many levels of players. And even if they play, people across the country also love to also watch the sport. All ages of fans turn on the TV or head to the local high school, college, or professional stadium from September to January to see their favorite teams in action.

No matter whether they’re players or spectators, people love to let the world know who their favorite team is. They get involved by going to games, tailgating before and cheering wildly during. Parents use bumper stickers or other items to show support for their youth league or high school team; people of all ages wear replica jerseys or logo hoodies to represent their favorite college or professional team. To become even more involved with how well a high school or youth team can do, some people will organize fundraisers so the team can enjoy great equipment and higher-end uniforms. Here are a couple of unique ideas for how best to show your team spirit and for how to have a successful youth football fundraiser.

If you want a fun, cool way to accessorize your look, consider wristbands. Made of 100% silicone, they can be designed in a variety of colors. So imagine this: if your team’s colors are blue and orange, you have lots of choices. You could get one blue and one orange wristband and wear them on the same wrist on one on either wrist. Or you could get a wristband with segmented colors, half orange and half blue. For even more eye-catching pop and talk value, you could get one in a swirl pattern. Or go for a more subtle look with blue on the outside and orange on the inside. On top of all that, you can add your team’s name in print right on the band. The options are truly endless, and with a unique wristband like that on your arm, you’ll be marked as a committed fan for sure.

What’s even better is that those same wristbands can be the base for a popular and successful fundraiser. Youth leagues and high school teams need extra money for equipment, uniforms, and travel to distant (even out of state!) games. Wristbands can be the backbone of an effort to raise money for fan buses, team hotels, or other necessary expenses. They can be customized with your particular team’s colors, logo, and rally cry, which will make them a «must have» for the team’s fans. Wristbands are popular for all ages-from kids to parents to grandparents-so you’ll be bound to sell many before and during games. Plus, because you can order them for lower prices in bulk, you’ll make even more money on each one you sell. And you could even consider getting coordinating key chains, slap bands, and silicone rings. Your team’s fans will go wild with silicone accessories, and your fundraiser will be well on its way to success. Just remember to always be creative and have fun with your team spirit look!

Best Football Academy in Spain

La Masia is the heart of Barcelona youth system, which located next to the Camp Nou Stadium. It was established in 1979 and now used to develop the young players that have had to leave their families in order to train at Barcelona both in a sporting and intellectual sense.

Apparently they have a total of approximately 260 youth players learning their trade here – Ninety percent of them are Spanish and more than 50 percent Catalans. In fact the current Barca team have 12 first team players who have come from the academy.

There are several youngsters that had lived at La Masia have gone on to play for the first team, such as Josep «Pep» Guardiola (academy years 1984-90), Ivan De la Peña (1991-94), Carles Puyol (1994-98), Andres Iniesta (1996-2001), Víctor Valdes (1996-2000) and Lionel Messi (2000-04).

Pep was touted as La Masia’s greatest product. A charismatic player who played 43 caps for Spain and won a gold medal at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona. He led the club to six La Liga titles, one Champions Cup in 1992 and two Spanish Cups.

Puyol, a native Catalunyan, is the club current skipper and heading towards his 250th game for the club.

However not all the graduates of La Masia established themselves at Barcelona and some have moved to other clubs to advance their careers.

These have include de la Pena, Luis Garcia, Jose Manuel Reina, Mikel Arteta, Gerard Pique, Cesc Fabregas and Albert Luque.

Fabregas, also a native Catalunyan, was persuaded by Arsenal manager’s Arsene Wenger for a brighter and better-paid future at Arsenal, and so it has proved since he joined the Gunners as a 16-year-old boy in September 2003.

Piqué also has been snapped up by Sir Alex Ferguson to strengthen his team. He is a defender who not only good for his defensive skills but also gets forward and scores.

Billy Wingrove – Learn Freestyle Football Vol 1 Review

I’m very keen in freestyle football since last year, 2006. So I watched a few video clips on the internet to learn a few tricks. I thought I’d give it a go on this DVD and see how it can improve my freestyle soccer tricks. Here’s the review:

There are several features on this DVD and all are guided by Billy himself.

First Part

Recommends proper equipment like the outfit, shorts, shoes and a soccer ball for freestyle soccer. Teaches some basic warm-ups like stretching knees and calfs before you start practicing freestyle soccer. Then some basic juggling soccer skills and simple stalls on each part from foot to head.

Second Part

You’ll learn some intermediate skills like Guardiolas. You’ll also learn on combining previous skills that you’ve learned to form a simple combination. There are 3 combinations showed in this DVD varying in difficulty levels.

Third Part

In this section, you’ll learn on how to apply certain tricks in the soccer field. Billy will show you on a futsal turf on how to do soccer tricks like Penalty X, Cyclone and many more.

In between the 3 parts of this DVD will show Billy Wingrove’s background, his favourite Premiership team, his career and where he started playing freestyle soccer.

My Recommendation

After watching this DVD for several times, I found that the DVD is useful for newbies in freestyle soccer. If you’re unfamiliar to basic soccer skills, then this is the DVD for you because Billy will show step-by-step with slow motion in each soccer trick. But for those who are intermediates and advance freestylers may get disappointed because the lack of cool, hard-to-do tricks.

Overall the DVD has an excellent replay value and it’s worth investing to start your freestyle soccer adventure.

Adidas F50 Boots – Are These Adidas’s Best Football Boot Offering?

Adidas F50 boots or soccer boots are the speed offering from Adidas and the football boots to rival Nike’s Vapor offerings. But are the Adidas F50 boots all they are built up to be or are they just living off hype?

If you are a keen soccer/football player, you will know doubt take your football boots choice very seriously. I know I do! At the beginning of each season I sit down and look at the latest offerings in the football boot market. From Adidas to the new Nike’s and Puma’s to Lotto’s Laceless offering, I have a real good research for the season!

Now the latest offering from the Adidas F50 range of boots to date, is the infamous «Blue Adidas F50i», the ones that were held up high by the legendary Lionel Messi in the Champions League Final in Rome. Messu, a player about speed and agility must be impressed with the Adidas F50 latest.

Well, they do rival the other industry players such as the Nike Vapor range and the Puma V range and are now being worn by many professional players across the globe. These boots are certainly built for speed and with the revolutionary SPRINT SKIN – a single layered PU synthetic material which is thinner and lighter than normal synthetics, this football or soccer boot has the makings of Adidas’s FAST BOOT!

Too you and me, this means the boot feels and plays lighter than previous versions of the F50, which is of course a good thing!

It does seem that if you really want to bring out the speed area of your game then these boots will certainly offer you some huge assistance. Adidas know that their F50 range of football boots are arguably the most popular, so of course it makes sense to make sure they are worn by the very best like Messi!

Are you the next Messi? If so, these Adidas F50 boots may be worth checking out!

Equity in Football – The Pros & Cons of the Salary Cap Proposal

The gulf between rich and poor clubs has never been greater. The amount of money circulating in the game has never been greater. The amount of players instantly becoming multi millionaires and buying fast cars and large mansions have never been greater. However, more sadly, the amount of clubs, especially ones with a lot of prestige and history behind them, going under have never been greater.

There’s always something wrong in seeing a football club, especially one which gets packed houses, struggle to break even and compete for a title. Just as the amount of money circulating has increased, the cost of staying in the game has increased as well.

Such large increases in wages put smaller, less rich clubs at a serious disadvantage in terms of challenging for titles and championships. As a result, many of these clubs have been forced to take financial gambles to be able to attract good enough players to remain competitive. This has backfired for some clubs such as Leeds United who in the space of 5 years went from being in the Champions League semi final to the English third division.

The question remains, can this wage spiral be controlled so that it no longer harms the smaller clubs? The answer is yes, and in football it’s being used in just 2 countries in the world: the USA and Australia. Both Major League Soccer and A-League used what is known as a salary cap, which is a limit as to how much a club can spend on players’ wages on a yearly basis.

The main advantage of such a system is that it ensures that each team is competitive despite their revenue and profits. It ensures parity and equity for the players and keeps the fans on the edge of their seats when it comes to challenging for the title as no one is shoo-in.

The major disadvantage of having a salary cap system in place is that it becomes very difficult for a club to retain its players. As a result, championship-winning teams rarely do stay together for another season. This is exactly what happened when Melbourne Victory won the 2006/07 in dominating fashion. The exodus of various players led to Victory having a disastrous season in 2007/08. The salary cap is an even greater disadvantage in football especially if other leagues do not have a salary cap themselves. As a result, the best players and talent will be taken away from leagues with salary caps, leaving fans with the leftovers.

Nevertheless, the risk of losing talent is not greater than the risk of losing clubs forever. While it may be a tragedy for clubs to lose star players due to a salary cap, it will surely ensure that fans still have a club to support.

History of Changes in Soccer Football Rules – A Thorough Look

History of Changes in Soccer Football Rules – Introduction

It should be noted that the primary motive for all the official changes in football rules is to improve the spirit of the game and make the game better in every possible way. Essentially, we will look at the major changes in the 19th century and the 20th century. As one can understand after going through this article, the game has undergone considerable changes in its rules over a period of time and this will be an ongoing process. As times change and new exploits are pointed out, the official game rules will continue to change either to fix or to improve the game.

Early Rules Changes

We should not forget that soccer existed hundreds of years before and people used to play football with varying rules during the initial days of football.

There were no proper common rules before 1863 to govern the game and changes in football rules were frequent during those initial periods. One of such two early rules that gained popularity are the Cambridge rules, first drawn up at Cambridge University in 1848 and the Sheffield Football Club rules, formed by former public school pupils in 1857.

During the early 1860s, there were increasing attempts in England to unify and reconcile the various football games that were played in the public schools as well in the industrial north under the Sheffield Rules.

19th Century Changes

The first uniform football rules and regulations were formed in the year 1863.The Cambridge Rules are taken as a base and are rewritten to arrive at the first official laws of the game. In the year 1866, the offside law is changed to allow players to be onside provided there are three players between the ball and the goal.

The year 1891 is a very important year for soccer rules in particular and the game in general. A game changing rule called «the penalty-kick» was first introduced into the game. A penalty kick is awarded against a team which commits offence within the 18 yard box, also called the penalty box. This changed the game drastically and offered an immense advantage to the team that is awarded a penalty kick.

20th Century Changes

The year 1925 witnessed another major change in soccer «offside» rule. The offside law which is conceived in the year 1866 initially allowed players to be onside provided there are three players between the ball and the goal. The amendment in 1925 changed the number from three to two players.

Substitutes are permitted for the first time in the year 1958. But this confined only for an injured goalkeeper and one other injured player.

Card system is introduced in the year 1970. The system of red and yellow cards is introduced for the 1970 FIFA World Cup finals as a means of warning or penalising a player. Referees indicate that a player has committed an offense and red card represents more serious offense than the yellow card.

In 1990 the offside law is once again changed and this time in favour of the attacker. As per this change in law, the attacker is now said to be onside if he/she is in level with the penultimate defender.

Other changes include the Goalkeepers forbidden from handing back-passes in 1992. The technical area is introduced into the Laws of the Game in 1994, with the Fourth Official following the next year. Initially who were referred to as «Linesmen» are renamed as «Assistant Referees», in the year 1996. In the year 1997 the Laws are revised once again for the betterment of the game.
